Signature Theatre’s Cabaret series continues with the spectacular Music In The Movies II. There’s only a few days left to enjoy a really, really, good evening listening to your favorite movie songs. And I think you’ll kick yourself if you miss this chance to hear the singing team of Carolyn Cole, Kellee Knighten Hough, and Vishal Valdya accompanied by the awesome skills of Music Director Zak Sandler on piano and Steven Walker on guitar. Over a delicious course of 23 songs, you’ll take a walk down memory lane of some your favorite movie songs, some will make you laugh and some will make you cry – all will fill you with happiness.
There were many personal favorites of mine that were chosen such as “Unchained Melody” from the movie Ghost. And what took this song to another level was the amazing rendition that was pure genius. Starting slowly with only the electrical guitar and the gorgeous voice of Carolyn Cole singing softly, the song built into a powerful and moving crescendo with the addition of the piano and full-vocals before winding it back down and ending in the soft electric guitar tones and vocals it began with. It was simply beautiful!
Another favorite was “Rose” from The Rose, sung in turns by the trio, this song just moved me to tears; it’s one of the most beautiful songs ever written and easily turns a romantic like me into complete mush everytime I hear it.
You’ll also be treated to Steven Walker’s awesome guitar skills throughout but it’s a delight when he takes front stage with “Everybody’s Talkin’” from Midnight Cowboy, “Long Ago and Far Away” from Till the Clouds Roll By,” and “Moon River” from Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
A few other songs you’ll hear are: “Can’t Help Falling In Love” soulfully sung by Vishal Vaidya, “Sound of Silence” performed in a sweet duo with Vishal Vaidya and Steven Walker, “The Man That Got Away” by Carolyn Cole, “Miss Celie’s Blues” in a sweet solo by Kellee Knighten Hough, and “Seems Like Old Times” – wonderfully sung by all three talented singers. You’ll just have to go to Signature Theatre and see Music In Movies II to know the rest of the song selection and experience a wonderful night of musical theatre.
Music In Movies II plays through September 8, 2012 at Signature Theatre – 4200 Campbell Avenue, in Arlington, Virginia. For tickets, call the box office at (703) 820-9771, or purchase them online.
